Algin Amores
Project Consultant
Al is a dual citizen of the United States and the Philippines and has been climbing for more than 30 years. He became a climber in the sandstone cliffs of West Virginia in 1995, and bolstered his technical climbing skills through a NOLS fall semester in the Rockies the following year. Since then, he has guided on and off, mentored many climbers, and currently holds an AMGA Single Pitch Instructor certification.
In his personal climbing, Al has achieved the levels of V10 in bouldering, 5.12 on traditional gear, and sent his first 5.14a sport climb at the age of 45. But his greatest achievement by far has been developing a limestone sport climbing area in the mountains of Danao on the island of Cebu, Philippines for more than a decade.
Rooted in U.S. climbing culture and shaped by the ethos of climbing organizations like Access Fund and the ASCA, Al brings that same approach to Danao. His vision is to build a model crag in Southeast Asia, centered on sustainability and safety from the trailhead to cliff base to anchor and back.
