In many areas of the world, climbing gear is not just prohibitively expensive—it’s often not available for purchase in-country at all. For climbers in the US or Europe, it can be easy to forget the privilege that comes with having a local or national retailer that carries climbing safety equipment. For thousands of climbers around the world, the challenge of procuring gear and replacing it as it ages is an enormous logistical and financial barrier to enjoying this sport. At The Global Climbing Initiative, we are working to change that by building the world’s largest and most inclusive gear distribution program.
