Working with At-Risk Youth

“Around the world, climbing communities generate the perfect environment to create a safe space and a common identity. This supportive environment coupled with the multiple physical and mental benefits brought by the practice of the sport have the potential to help youth in overcoming their past trauma.”

Dream Higher is an NGO in Cape Town, South Africa which strives to offer long-term climbing opportunities to at-risk youth. In this chapter, the Dream Higher team shares lessons learned from their five years of experience running at-risk youth programs to help others taking on similar initiatives worldwide.
