What is the mission of the Climbing Association of Ghana?
To cultivate a thriving climbing scene in Ghana, driven by local talent and reaching new heights.
What is the history of your organization?
For over 15 years, international climbers have contributed Ghana's rocky outdoors. While their enthusiasm has been instrumental, their temporary stays made it difficult to establish a long-term climbing scene.
Recognizing this, the community formed the Climbing Association of Ghana hosted the country's first-ever climbing festival in Asubone, a village nestled in the Eastern Region. This event ignited a spark in the young people who participated in their first climbing experience, both in training and competition.
The Climbing Association aims to nurture this newfound interest and unlock the potential of climbing in Ghana. By fostering a local climbing culture, they hope to empower Ghanaians and create exciting opportunities for the future.
What are your current programs/areas of work?
Promoting and training Ghanaians with interest in the sport, organizing weekly outdoor climbing and climbing events such the West Africa Climbing Festival.
What positive impacts are you creating?
Our first festival unearthed new talent who are now actively climbing in Asubone. Local businesses realized an increase economic activity and provided job opportunities. We've also empowered local leaders in route setting, ensuring a constant stream of fresh challenges for climbers.
What are your organization's goals/vision for the future?
We envision climbing as a recognized sport in Ghana, attracting support and fostering a vibrant community. A state-of-the-art climbing facility in Accra will equip climbers before they tackle outdoor challenges on weekends. Ultimately, we dream of seeing Ghanaian climbers thriving on the international stage.
Anything else you’d like to add?
We equally excited about new partnerships enabling the leadership of organization to learn and share knowledge.
