Supporting the Future of Climbing in Colombia
High in the Andes above Suesca, steep rock faces tower over farmland, rivers, and rural villages. For generations, these cliffs have provided the backdrop for local life. Today, they’re becoming places where young people can imagine new paths forward: as climbers, environmental stewards, and leaders in their communities.
Fundación Edenes de Colombia works to protect access to outdoor climbing spaces in Colombia while strengthening the communities that surround them. Through education, Fundación Edenes promotes awareness, inclusion, and stewardship of the land.
In 2026, our Climbing Leadership Fund is supporting Fundación Edenes’ work to help Suescano youth build futures in the mountains they call home, for both recreation and livelihood. The project begins with nonprofit development training focused on strategy, fundraising, and organizational growth, reinforcing Fundación Edenes’ established leadership role.
Fundación Edenes will then deliver programming for approximately 80 students, aged 15 to 17, from the rural villages of Hato Grande and Cacicazgo. Students will:
Participate in adventure-based workshops prompting them to reflect on their relationship with the mountain landscape and their role in mitigating deforestation, river pollution, desertification, erosion, and wildfires.
Attend career seminars with Alex Torres, a UIAGM-certified guide born and raised in Suesca, and Lina Novoa Claro, Fundación Edenes’ director, who will share their stories to show students what is possible.
Enjoy a community climbing day at Farallón de Roca, bringing together residents, businesses, and local leaders to celebrate access, inclusion, and collaboration.
This project helps ensure that the future of climbing in Colombia is led by Colombians and rooted in community, conservation, and opportunity.
Connecting climbing communities:
