Our partners at Climbing Life Kenya shared with us that the biggest opportunity for their community’s growth would be investment in the skills of local climbing leaders for guiding, mentorship, and wilderness first aid skills.

In 2023, we selected Climbing Life Kenya to become our first Climbing Leadership Fund partner. That March, we organized a three-week training for members of Climbing Life Kenya and local guides, through which AMGA guides and instructors Rainbow Weinstock and Marcus Garcia invested in the skills of 11 volunteers and climbing leaders with training in:

  • Climbing safety

  • Wilderness first aid

  • Climbing movement and mindset

  • Leadership

  • Mentorship

Through partnership with the American Mountain Guide Association and Colorado Mountain School, we also led a certified AMGA Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) course - the first ever conducted in Kenya.

To fund this project, Sterling made a rope in the colors of the Kenyan flag, with proceeds supporting our partnership with Climbing Life Kenya!

In 2024, we supported Climbing Life Kenya’s vision for uniting the climbing communities of Africa through the creation of the Africa Climbing Leaders Network, initiated through a series of 5 seminars that gathered 30+ climbing leaders in Africa to shape the future of climbing on their continent.

We aim to continue equipping Kenya’s rising climbing leaders and supporting their vision for the growth of climbing in their country. Please donate today to fund further opportunities for Climbing Life Kenya to connect Kenyans with rock climbing.
