Please note that our Project Proposal is invitation-only, extended to select applicants who have submitted an an Initial Application and are selected for the next stage. All proposals must be submitted via the form provided. Please do not send a proposal via email.

Team and responsibilities

List each person involved in the project, their specific role and responsibilities, and the relevant experience or expertise they bring. Include all leaders, staff, volunteers, advisors, and/or outside experts shaping the project, and be sure to include yourself. Clearly indicate who is responsible for each major part of the work and how this team has the capacity and expertise to successfully complete the project. (100-200 words)

Community and identity representation

Who on your project team are members of the community or identity group(s) that your project aims to serve? Please describe how their lived experiences and connections to the community will inform the design and direction of your project. (50-100 words)

Timeline

Provide a timeline of key project milestones and deadlines. Projects for the Fall 2026 grant cycle must take place between October 2026 and March 2027, with deliverables submitted 60 days after completion of the project. (50-100 words)

Monitoring

Please describe your plan for monitoring the project throughout the grant cycle. How will you stay engaged in the project’s progress (for example: regular check-ins, site visits, internal tracking tools, or community feedback sessions)? (50-100 words)

Outcomes

Please list the qualitative and quantitative metrics you plan to gather to measure the success of your project. Please include metrics that are realistic given the project scope and timeline. (50-100 words)

How much funding are you requesting (in US dollars)?

Up to $1,000 in the environmental and social impact categories. Up to $2,000 in the economic development category.

Itemized budget

Please share a detailed budget. For each expense, describe the item, list the quantity if appropriate, and provide the cost in USD.

If the total project cost exceeds the amount requested from GCI, explain how the remaining costs will be covered and identify the source(s) of those funds.

Please note that GCI cannot approve projects that depend on future fundraising, future grant awards, or other unsecured funding sources in order to be completed, and GCI does not provide additional funding if project expenses exceed expected cost, and partners are expected to remain accountable to the project proposed.

Team capacity and support

To what extent does this project depend on volunteer support? Please estimate the total volunteer hours required and explain how you determined that sufficient volunteers will be available throughout the project. (100-200 words)

Risks and challenges

What are the three biggest risks or challenges that could affect your project's success, and how would your team respond if they occur? For example, civil unrest, weather, leadership change, permissions required, or other stakeholder considerations. (100-200 words)

All applicants who submit a Project Proposal will receive a notification of their application status on September 9. Please confirm you or a representative of your climbing organization will be available for a grant finalist meeting between September 21 and 28 if invited. Due to the limited number of grants available, not all proposals will be selected for funding. We appreciate the time, thought, and effort that goes into each proposal.
