Help us understand the context of safety in emerging climbing communities around the world

As climbing grows, the skills and resources that help keep climbers safe need to grow alongside it. The Global Climbing Initiative is conducting a survey to better understand existing safety strengths and opportunities for support in under-resourced and emerging climbing communities.

Who should participate

We welcome anyone with firsthand experience in climbing communities across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East, including recreational climbers, guides, instructors, route developers, gym staff, organization leaders, volunteers, and others involved in climbing.

You do not need to be an organizational leader or represent the views of your entire community. We encourage multiple people from the same community to respond and share their individual perspectives.

Topics covered

The survey takes approximately 10 minutes and explores three areas:

  • How climbing skills are taught in your community

  • Preparedness in case of a safety incident

  • Safety of fixed hardware (bolts and anchors)

Your responses will help GCI identify priorities and shape future programs.

Language considerations

The survey is provided in English, but responses are welcome in any language. You can use Google Translate or another translation tool to read the questions in your preferred language and submit your answers in the language you prefer. We appreciate responses in any language.

If you have questions or further thoughts to share, please send an email to safety@globalclimbing.org. Thank you for sharing your perspectives and helping us learn about the growth of climbing in your region!
