Why do we ask for leadership demographics?

In alignment with our values, The Global Climbing Initiative’s aim is to support locally-driven visions for the growth of climbing around the world. To do so, we are dedicated to increasing access to knowledge and resources for those who often face barriers to reaching them. The climbing world is reflective of the same power inequities and systemic issues that permeate society more broadly. Therefore, we prioritize partnership with climbing organizations led by local climbers who represent a spectrum of identities, including gender. We encourage all organizations we work with to think holistically about how to promote diversity among their members and leadership in order to shift norms in the climbing world and help create greater equity in this sport.
